Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)

Director: Tim Burton

Writers: John Logan (screenplay), Stephen Sondheim (musical)

Stars: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Alan Rickman

My Review:
This film was one of the best films of 2007. With Johnny Depp in the lead, the film was a blockbuster hit and a critically acclaimed one too. The basic plot of the story in one word is Revenge. An Infamous barber Benjamin Barker, who was married to a gorgeous woman Lucy, was wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit by Judge Turpin. Turpin was attracted by the beauty of Lucy and hence he imprisoned Barker for 15 long years. Barker after fifteen years of life in exile returns back to London to avenge the death of his wife.
In London he meets Mrs. Lovett, a meat shop owner and sets up his barber shop at her place. The film was not taken in natural colours in order to emphasize the period in which the story was supposed to have happened(19th Century). The film was made as a musical which added beauty to the best. The film had too much of bloody violence which added with a colour setting gave it a Hell look.
Johnny Depp won the Golden Globes and was Nominated for Oscars for his performance as Sweeney Todd. I would rate this performance of Johnny Depp as his best performance so far in his career.

My Rating: 7.7/10

Recommendation: Enjoy it!!!
